Through four weeks of the 2024 NFL season, we are starting to get a better picture of what some of these teams are going to be this year. The Chiefs are once again good, despite being very lucky as usual and getting every call and ball to go their way. The Jaguars are a mess at 0-4 and will likely fire their head coach while they ponder what to do with their struggling rich quarterback. Then there are also some teams that we can’t quite get a clear read on, such as the New York Jets.

This was supposed to be the year where everything was kumbaya in New York, the year the Jets finally are good and make the playoffs. Through the first four weeks, we really don’t know if that is what this team is. They are sitting at 2-2 after an abysmal loss to the Denver Broncos where they managed just nine points at home in a 10-9 loss. That is simply a game that New York cannot lose if they really want to call themselves contenders this season.

QB Aaron Rodgers is a first ballot Hall of Famer that is one of the best signal-callers of his generation, and there is no questioning that. However, it is fair to question whether at the age of 40, if he still is an effective arm in the NFL. So far, he has been a below-average passer, which is not something we are used to seeing from him. He’s thrown for 849 yards and five touchdowns, with a single interception. His QBR is only 50.1, which is 19th in the league as it stands, and would be the lowest of his career.

Over at BetMGM, the Jets’ playoff chances have taken a hit after their latest loss. They opened the season -140 to make the playoffs, and just last week, were juiced all the way to -250 to get in. Now, they have plummeted back down close to Earth, sitting at -105 to make the postseason this year. Clearly, the books were very discouraged by that loss to Denver, as that is a very large change in odds for one game.

Next up for the Jets is the Minnesota Vikings over in London for the NFL International Series game. The Vikings have been one of the biggest surprises in the league this season, projected to finish last in the NFC North, but riding high right now with an undefeated 4-0 record. This is due to the unexpected good play of QB Sam Darnold, who was brought in to just be a placeholder for their first-round rookie J.J. McCarthy. With McCarthy out of the season with injury, this is Darnold’s job to lose, but he has done a very impressive job that could make Minnesota really think.

I actually like the Jets in this game. Everyone will be betting on the Vikings since they are undefeated, and everyone also saw how bad New York looked last week. Plus, International favorites are 34-10-1 SU. Surely getting the Vikings under a field goal is easy money, right?

Right now, 63 percent of the tickets and 88 percent of the handle is on the Jets to make the playoffs at BetMGM. They would pop champagne if New York crumbled and missed them this season.
