It’s been an eventful few months in the life of Alex Rodriguez. It was reported in March that A-Rod and his fiancée Jennifer Lopez were calling off their engagement. The two denied that rumor, only to cut ties a month later. Since then, Rodriguez has splurged on an NBA franchise (the Minnesota Timberwolves) while his pop-star ex appears to be getting back together with actor Ben Affleck (the two were recently spotted in Miami), who she dated from 2002-04.
It’s not often Rodriguez, one of the more polarizing big-leaguers of his era, is portrayed as a sympathetic figure. But seeing Lopez rekindle an old flame barely a month after their split couldn’t have been an easy pill for the 45-year-old to swallow. Having a relationship of four years fall apart would devastate anyone, but Rodriguez seems ready to move on, as evidenced by an Instagram story the former Yankees slugger shared over the weekend.
“I am about to step into a new beginning in my life,” wrote the Sunday Night Baseball analyst, as transcribed by Francesca Bacardi of the New York Post. “Anything that doesn’t serve me is clearing out of my life. New energy is emerging. New levels are unlocking for me mentally, physically and spiritually. I am remaining patient and know that this new phase of my life is coming.”
That could mean any number of things, though whatever the former MVP is referring to (perhaps his new makeup line?), he seems to be projecting a sense of optimism about his future.
