Trevor Bauer may have benefitted from some of Angel Hernandez’s strike calls on Monday night, but even he was in disbelief over some of the calls.
Following his start against the Giants, in which he allowed two earned runs on eight hits a walk while striking out eight, Bauer fielded questions from reporters on his outing, but none asked about some of the strike calls made by Hernandez.
As Bauer got up, he muttered under his breath — but loud enough for everyone to hear, “I’m surprised no one asked about f---ing Angel Hernandez.”
Bauer’s strikeout of Giants catcher Buster Posey in the first inning was particularly puzzling, punching out the veteran on a pitch that was 4.31 inches off the plate.

It was one of three noticeable calls that were way outside the strike zone that Bauer benefitted from.
Hernandez has become a punching bag of sorts for MLB fans, often criticized on social media due to his reputation for incorrect calls or a poor strike zone.
Despite missing those calls, the above graphic does note that Hernandez actually did a fairly good job behind the plate with a 95% accuracy rating.
The bad ones always stick out, though, especially with Hernandez. And that pitch to Posey really was unhittable in the sense that it was not a strike.
