When Steve Cohen signed on to become the new owner of the New York Mets, a good amount of change was promised, and a good amount of change has occurred.
Francisco Lindor was brought on and signed to a massive 10-year contract. The black jerseys are back, and though we haven't seen them yet, a little teaser suggested that a July return could be in store. And, in much less significant news, Cohen also seemed to indicate that there would be chance to celebrate, instead of shame, an infamous deal associated with the Mets.

July 1 happens to be that day, when the Mets pay Bobby Bonilla yet another installment of $1,193,248.20, the 11th of many payments that will ultimately come to a stop in 2035. That much hasn't changed. The festivities surrounding the day, however, most definitely have.
"For the first time ever, the Mets and Airbnb have teamed up to give you a once-in-a-lifetime night at Citi Field," Bonilla read in a promo video for the special event.
As the tweet above shows, that awesome night will be on July 28, and booking opens at noon on July 8.
According to the description on Airbnb's website, the fan will go to two home games with the overnight stay in between so that they never have to leave Citi Field.
"You’ll get to sleep in your own suite overlooking the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, with views of the original Homerun Apple and Flushing Meadows-Corona Park," the description reads. "It’s one of the best spots in the house, not only because it overlooks all of the Game Day action, but also because it’s chock full of memorabilia that will get any fan jumpin' in their seats. It’s the perfect private dugout to settle in and get ready to root for the home team during our two back-to-back games against the Atlanta Braves."
Among the other features of the overnight stay are as follows:
- A workout and shower in the Mets gym prior to heading back to your suite for the night
- Throwing out the first pitch before the July 28 game
- Hanging out with Mr. and Mrs. Met
- A customized Mets jersey and used baseball signed by members of the team
- All meals free
Unfortunately, you won't get to partake in a TV commercial... but Bonilla does, teaming up with Mint Mobile for a clever ad that also dropped on Bobby Bonilla Day 2021.
