Marcell Ozuna has been granted $20,000 bond on charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and battery against his wife, per multiple reports. He is expected to be released from jail later on Monday.

The Atlanta Braves outfielder was arrested on Saturday by Sandy Springs police after officers witnessed Ozuna attack his wife, Genesis, while responding to a 9-1-1 call.

Ozuna appeared in front of a Fulton County Magistrate Court on Monday and was ordered to have no contact with his wife.

Attorneys in court said the couple was in the process of divorce and that Genesis Ozuna was arrested on a domestic violence charge in Miami a year ago.

The Sandy Springs police department released a statement on Saturday evening that detailed the incident, in which officers entered a home where the front door was open and heard screaming inside. That is when officers witnessed Ozuna grab his wife by the neck and throw her against the wall before striking her with his cast on his left hand, which he had injured during a game last week.

He was arrested on one count of aggravated assault by strangulation under the Domestic Violence Act and one count of Batter under the Domestic Violence Act.

Major League Baseball will also investigate the matter under the joint domestic violence policy between MLB and the players’ union, which could result in a lengthy suspension for Ozuna, who is already out six weeks due to fractures in his fingers on his left hand.
