Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested Saturday for an alleged domestic violence incident and was being held without bond at the Fulton County jail, according to booking records.
Ozuna was arrested by Sandy Springs police on one count of battery – family violence and one count of aggravated assault strangulation, the latter of which is a felony punishable by a minimum of one year and maximum of 20 years in prison in Georgia.
MLB will launch an investigation in accordance with its domestic violence policy, and the Braves released the below statement on the matter:
Ozuna is not with the team in New York, as he was placed on the injured list after injuring two fingers diving into third base on Tuesday.Any action could lead to the MLB putting him on the restricted list, which would withhold pay on the four-year, $65 million deal he signed this past winter, and under the provisions of the joint policy, the league has the authority to issue discipline regardless of the outcome of the criminal charges leveled against Ozuna.
The arrest comes nearly one year to the day his wife, Genesis, was arrested for domestic battery, after allegedly hitting Ozuna in the face with a soap dish and lacerating him.
