One of the big names ahead of the MLB trade deadline is officially off the board.

The Miami Marlins traded outfielder Starling Marte and “significant money” to the Oakland A’s for pitching prospect Jesus Luzardo, per multiple reports.

Oakland is rather a surprise destination for Marte, who has been linked to the Yankees, Giants and Astros.

The money portion is significant for the A’s, who are typically budget-strapped, as Marte is owed $4.57 million remaining on $12.5 million salary this season, which the Marlins will pay the majority of, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

The Yankees actually inquired on Marte but the Marlins did not see a match they like, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, who also noted that the Yankees are trying to catch the A’s in the wild-card standings.

Marte, a 32-year-old right-handed hitting outfielder, has a slash line of .306/.407/.453 with seven home runs, 25 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 63 games this season.

He missed some time with a fractured rib earlier this year which he sustained on a diving catch.

Oakland parting with Luzardo is also significant.

The 23-year-old has been a hyped prospect for the A’s, although has struggled this season with a 6.87 ERA in 13 games (six starts) in the majors and a 6.52 ERA in eight starts with Triple-A Las Vegas, too.
