Theo Epstein reflects on 2016 Cubs' World Series run

You got that right. Epstein is baseball’s greatest curse breaker, and for all we know, we could have currently been in Year 113 of the Cubs’ World Series drought if not for the roster that Epstein constructed to make it happen. You won’t find him hogging the spotlight, though.

He looked back on that 2016 run on the aptly-titled Audacy and MLB podcast “The Run - 2016 Chicago Cubs" and stayed humble throughout his reflection.

“I don’t take any extra satisfaction in being a quote-unquote character in this narrative,” Epstein said. "And frankly I find it really annoying when they show any executives — especially me — in the stands, because our job’s behind the scenes and the players are the ones determining everyone’s fate.”

But it’s not as if he won’t take any credit at all, and he looks back on that time fondly due to all the hard work and camaraderie it required.

“How does it feel to know, deep down know, that the work I put in with my brothers and sisters in the front office mattered? And contributed to that? It means everything. That’s the reward, that’s incredible satisfaction of a job well done.”
