NBA Best Bets for Wednesday, January 29

Top picks for Knicks vs. Nuggets and Nets vs. Hornets, featuring team totals and spread plays.

Wednesday’s NBA slate features plenty of betting opportunities, and we’ve identified the top plays with strong value. The Knicks’ offense has been on fire, making their team total an appealing option against the Nuggets, while a shorthanded Hornets squad presents value in backing the Nets. Let’s break down the best bets for tonight’s matchups.

Knicks Over 122.5 Team Total vs. Nuggets (+100, BetMGM)

This is the best that New York’s offense has looked all season long and they hung 143 points on the Kings and then 143 points again against the Grizzlies in their last two games, both of which finished in regulation. This Nuggets team ranks in the bottom half of the league in Defensive Rating (19th) while the Knicks own the 2nd-best Offensive Rating, a testament to how adding Karl-Anthony Towns to the roster has taken them to the next level on that end of the floor. Overall, New York has accumulated 140-plus points in three of their last eight games and this is a reasonable number to attack since the full-game total is in the low 240’s.

Nets +2.5 at Hornets (-105, BetMGM)

Brooklyn has gone 16-9-1 (64.0% hit rate, 3rd-best in NBA) on the road this season and will take on a Hornets team that will be without LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Mark Williams, Tre Mann, Cody Martin, Josh Green and Grant Williams. While Cam Johnson, Cam Thomas, Noah Clowney, Bojan Bogdanovic, Maxwell Lewis and De’Anthony Melton will all be out for Brooklyn, I think Brooklyn has an edge here. I expect D’Angelo Russell, Nic Claxton, Jalen Wilson, Keon Johnson and Ben Simmons (if he is active) to start with Ziaire Williams, Day’Ron Sharpe, Tyrese Martin, Tosan Evbuomwan and Reece Beekman to come off the bench. Miles Bridges will lead the Hornets and will likely be joined by Nick Smith Jr., Vasilije Micic, Moussa Diabate and Josh Okogie in the starting five. I expect Seth Curry, Isaiah Wong, Taj Gibson and DaQuan Jeffries to come off the bench, but overall, this could be a disgusting basketball game to watch.
