It’s long been believed Rob Gronkowski would finish his career with Tom Brady. But maybe Gronk will play on after all.

The Bills are interested in adding Gronkowski if he wants to play next season, reports Tim Graham of The Athletic. He adds the Bills inquired about Gronk last year before he signed a one-year extension with the Buccaneers.

A Buffalo native, it would be a storybook ending to Gronk’s career if finished up his playing days in his hometown.

“There’s a sense that a one-year, $5 million base contract, with somewhere around $5 million of incentives attached, could be a strong fit for the Bills,” said Michael Ginnitti, managing editor of contract analysis database Spotrac. “That’s lower risk up front as they assess what kind of role he may play over the course of 17-plus weeks, and they’ll be happy to add on bonus pay if things go swimmingly.”

Gronkowski, 32, was a solid contributor for the Bucs last season. The future Hall of Famer nabbed 55 catches for 802 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games.

He was a focal part of Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl push in 2020, catching eight passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns during the postseason. Gronkowski returned to the NFL after sitting out the 2019 season.

Earlier this offseason, Gronkowski hinted he would like to play with Joe Burrow and the Bengals.

Adding Gronk would be a coup for the Bills, who have firmly established themselves as the best team in the AFC East. Bills tight end Dawson Knox enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021. Adding Gronk would give Buffalo one of the best tight end groups in the NFL.

Josh Allen would certainly be appreciative. Bill Belichick, meanwhile, probably wouldn’t.

For what it's worth, Gronk says he thinks Brady is coming back in a couple of years. Maybe Buffalo would be a stopgap until his bff returns.
