A bet only a father could make?
Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool took to social media when it came to his attention that a bold bettor is bullish on the talented wide receiver's outlook for the 2021 season.
So bullish, in fact, that the audacious wagerer plunked down a $1,000 prop bet -- with a potential payout of $91,000 -- that Claypool will lead the NFL in receiving touchdowns.
The second-year wideout took the modest route in his response on Twitter, suggesting that the mystery bettor must be a relative.
"Dad? Is that you," Claypool joked.
While the odds might be against Claypool in the literal sense, we wouldn't necessarily bet against him. The second-round draft pick staked his claim as a player to watch in his rookie year, reeling in 9 touchdown catches while averaging 14 yards per reception. The 9 scores tied him with several others, including teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster, for 10th-most in the league.
Packers star Davante Adams paced the league with 18 touchdown catches last season, while the Chiefs' Tyreek Hill was second with 15. If Claypool can catch up with those guys, the Steelers of course would be ecstatic -- and he'll make at least one enterprising fan a lot of money.
