DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons was widely seen as the best defensive rookie in the NFL this season, and it was made official at NFL Honors on Thursday night when the dynamic linebacker took home the 2021 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award by a unanimous vote (50 votes).
The honor isn't much of a surprise when you look at Parsons' statistical performance on the gridiron this season. He recorded a franchise rookie record 13 sacks (sixth in the NFL) and tied for the NFL lead with 20 tackles for loss.
According to the Dallas Cowboys, Parsons became the first Cowboys player on offense or defense to win back-to-back NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month awards for November and December.
The former Penn State product and standout second-year corner Trevon Diggs became the first Cowboys' defensive player/s since Sean Lee to be named first-team All-Pro.
Parsons’ selection made him the fifth rookie in franchise history to earn first-team All-Pro honors, joining Ezekiel Elliott (2016), Zack Martin (2014), Richie Cunningham (1997) and Calvin Hill (1969).
