Trevon Diggs could legitimately break an NFL record that has stood for the last 69 years.

The Dallas Cowboys cornerback struck again on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, intercepting his eighth pass in nine games late in the third quarter when he made a diving catch of a ball Matt Ryan overthrew.
It was his first interception since Week 6 and it puts the second-year cornerback on pace to break the all-time single-season interception record, which was set in 1952 by Hall of Famer Night Train Lane while as a rookie with the Los Angeles Rams.
Lane accomplished the feat in 12 games, though, while Diggs will be trying to do it in the first 17-game season.

Still, it is a record that has been near impossible to break.
Former Raiders great Lester Hayes came close in 1980 with 13 interceptions in a 16-game season, but interceptions have been much more difficult to come by in the modern NFL, despite more passing attempts than ever before.
In fact, only six players in the 21st century have ever had 10 interceptions in a single season and none of them finished with more. Dolphins’ Xavien Howard was the most recent to do it last year.
Diggs already has nine with eight games left to play. His nose for the ball has made him one of the most entertaining defensive backs in the game and will surely be entertaining to see if he could indeed break a record that has stood for almost 70 years.
