You earned it, Justin. Longtime Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is the newest member of Madden’s hallowed “99 Club,” joining Davante Adams, Aaron Donald, Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Ramsey as one of six current players to hold a perfect 99 rating in the popular video-game franchise. That honor comes on the heels of Tucker’s breathtaking 66-yard field goal against Detroit, which topped the previous NFL record held by former Broncos kicker Matt Prater. Tucker’s last-second kick was preceded two plays earlier by a miracle, 36-yard catch from Sammy Watkins on fourth-and-19.
With Sunday’s game-winner, Tucker was able to atone for his earlier miss, an errant 49-yard attempt that sailed wide right. Ironically, Tucker’s previous career-best also came in Detroit, keying an 18-16 Ravens victory with a 61-yard masterpiece in 2013. Statistically the most accurate kicker in NFL history (90.6-percent success rate), Tucker is a worthy 99. Though rare, Tucker’s achievement is not unprecedented. According to ESPN's Jamison Hensley, four others at his position—David Akers, Morten Andersen, Mike Vanderjagt and Adam Vinatieri—have gained entry to Madden’s prestigious 99 Club.
Tucker, who joined Baltimore as an undrafted free agent in 2012, still has a long way to go in his pursuit of Vinatieri, the NFL’s all-time leader with 599 career field goals. The 31-year-old is, however, fourth among active kickers in that metric, trailing only Robbie Gould, Mason Crosby and the aforementioned Prater. Tucker and the Ravens will travel to Denver—where Prater booted his then-record 64-yarder in 2013—for a date with the undefeated Broncos in Week 4.
