Ryan Kerrigan has requested a trade from Washington, but he may not necessarily be going anywhere.
The star pass-rusher has expressed his desire to be moved to another team ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, but the Washington Football Team has told teams they have no plans in moving the veteran, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the pass-rusher Washington is more likely to deal is 26-year-old Ryan Anderson.
Kerrigan, 32, is a four-time Pro Bowl defensive end and is the franchise’s all-time sacks leader with 94 throughout this 10-year career in Washington.
Kerrigan, who is in the final year of his contract, had said earlier this year that he wanted to stay in Washington “for the long haul” but has seen his playing time decrease this season with rookies Montez Sweat and Chase Young getting more opportunities.
However, he is still second on the team with four sacks, but has just eight tackles through seven games and has started just one game this season. In fact, he’s played just 23 defensive snaps over his last two games, but managed to record two sacks in that limited time.
Kerrigan had also not missed a game for Washington since he was drafted in the first round of the 2011 draft until last year when an injury cut his season short.
