Steelers Nation is in mourning after a tragic accident Wednesday evening.
Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt’s brother was killed during a hit-and-run Wednesday evening in Johns Creek, GA.
CBS46 reports 23-year old Richard Bartlett III was following his girlfriend, who had a mattress strapped to her car. They pulled over and stopped to secure the mattress when Bartlett was hit by and oncoming car around 9:30 p.m.
He died from his injuries after being struck near a boat entrance to the Chattahoochee River on McGinnis Ferry Road.
Capt. Todd Hood with Johns Creek Police told CBS46, “We do know that the vehicle turned around in the intersection right there possibly to see what had happened or what they had hit and at that point they fled the scene,” Hood said. “The Mom and girlfriend on scene at that point said they believe the vehicle was a dark, possibly black in color, four door sedan. One of the witnesses believes it was most likely a BMW.”
Authorities continue to search for the person responsible for the hit-and-run.
According to CBS46, Tuitt’s mother, Tamara Tuitt-Bartlett is a deputy with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.
Tuitt had not commented by Friday morning. The 28-year-old is entering his 8th season in the NFL with the Steelers.
