Rashad Weaver can probably relate to the Blink 182 lyric, “Nobody likes you when you’re 23.” Post-college life can be quite an adjustment for young adults used to the safety net of living at home with mom and dad, not having to worry about inconveniences like figuring out health insurance or doing your own laundry.
Weaver, who starred at the University of Pittsburgh (where he was an all-conference linebacker in 2020) prior to joining Tennessee as the 135th pick in this year’s draft, got a dose of tough love from his mom earlier this week, who informed the Titans rookie she won’t be paying his cell phone bill anymore.
Obviously, Weaver has more than enough cash to foot his monthly Verizon bill now that he’s a salaried NFL player (including a $164,916 signing bonus, he’ll take home $824,916 this season), though it’s hard not to lament the 23-year-old’s loss of innocence, finally leaving the nest to embark on a new chapter in his life. Adulthood can be both freeing and exciting, though it also comes with its share of fairly monotonous tasks, from folding clothes to filing tax returns.
The good news is Weaver shouldn’t have any trouble finding a new network provider with AT&T already recruiting him on Twitter.
