When the Dolphins decided to sign former Houston Texans wideout Will Fuller ahead of the 2021 season — and ultimately drafted star WR Jaylen Waddle to line up alongside Fuller and DeVante Parker on the outside — it really looked like Tua Tagovailoa would have the formidable receiving corps he was missing in his rookie season. Unfortunately, one of those pieces has been almost completely missing throughout the 2021 campaign, and the latest news is that we may not see him at all as the year comes to an end.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores spoke to the media on Monday afternoon, saying that he expects Fuller to be out for the season after having setbacks with his broken finger (via NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe). The injury came in Week 4, after Fuller had already missed Week 1 to serve a suspension and Week 2 due to a personal matter (via Pro Football Talk).
And what did he do in the small sample size of action we saw with Miami, from Week 3 up until his injury in Week 4? Unfortunately, not much. All in all, with eight targets, Fuller recorded four receptions for just 26 yards without a score, though he did convert a two-point opportunity. When viewed in context of his sizable contract, that production is obviously underwhelming... very underwhelming.
Of course, Fuller could come back at some point late in the year, though Flores's comments make it seem like that's rather unlikely.
Fuller seemed like someone who could turn into a legitimate star in a prominent role after he turned heads in 2020 with an average of 79.9 yards per game, good for 1,358 yards over a 16-game season. A deep threat with over a dozen 100-yard games in his career, Fuller may have to look to a new team to bounce-back in 2022, should he return to full health following this frustrating finger injury.
