NHL Best Bets and Player Props for Tuesday, January 28

Top picks include Ducks ML, Sabres ML, and Brandon Montour Anytime Goalscorer.

Tuesday's NHL slate offers plenty of opportunities for sharp bettors, with intriguing matchups and valuable prop bets to target. From the Anaheim Ducks as a live underdog against the Seattle Kraken to the Buffalo Sabres hosting a struggling Bruins squad, there’s value on the board. We also highlight Brandon Montour’s anytime goalscorer odds as a longshot worth considering. Let’s dive into the best bets and player props for tonight’s action.

Anaheim Ducks ML at Seattle Kraken (+110, BetMGM)

This line has seen some drastic movement since the open, where the Ducks were as high as +140. That is now down to +110, and for good reason, which I assume everyone else saw immediately as well. What have the Kraken done to deserve to be favorites in this game, especially any sort of bigger favorite? The answer is nothing. They have been quite bad this season, and while the Ducks are also a stinker, they are getting plus money here against an awful team. Always look for value when you can in hockey.

The Ducks are average at best on offense and have been bad on defense, and have also gotten pretty average goaltending with a 3.08 team GA/G. They are nothing special, but they really don’t have to be here against Seattle. The Kraken have been a disaster on offense, generating just 26.5 shots on goal per game, and scoring only 2.90 goals per contest. They have been decent on defense and in the net, but they just can’t score against anyone.

I’ll take the +110 odds and fade the team that can’t put anything on the board.

Buffalo Sabres ML vs. Boston Bruins (-105, BetMGM)

The big bad Boston Bruins have not been so big and bad in 2024-25. In fact, they have been pretty bad, but somehow have managed to have a decent record at 25-20-6. There is very little about them that scares me, and if I am getting another team at home as an underdog against them, I will take that every time.

The Bruins, much like the Kraken, have been unable to generate much offense at all. They are scoring just 2.73 goals per game, which is even worse than Seattle, and getting 27.3 shots on goal. Those numbers are very underwhelming for a team with such a good reputation, and they often have been riding that reputation this season. They have been decent on defense and in the net, but the inability to score has really been an issue for them.

The Sabres aren’t a good hockey team, so don’t get me wrong here. They also have had issues on both sides of the puck, with some horrendous goaltending with a 3.43 GA/G team average. The good news is that the Bruins haven’t shown they can take advantage of it. I’ll take them at home here for a cheap price of -105.

Brandon Montour Anytime Goalscorer (+600, BetMGM)

Yes, I think the Ducks will beat the Kraken and have already bet them, but I also think Seattle will get plenty of chances with how terrible the Ducks defense has been. Now, I don’t know how much they will actually be able to score, but the shots are going to be there since the Ducks are allowing 32.2 shots on their net per game. As a result, there is some value on Kraken players to put a puck in the net, and I like Brandon Montour to do so here.

He’s a defenseman, sure, but he is an offensive defenseman. He actually leads the Kraken with 140 shots so far this season, so you can see how often he is getting the puck on the net. While that has only resulted in eight goals, the chances have been there, and he should have a lot of those against the Ducks. I’ll take a shot at a ridiculous 6/1 number that he scores here.
