Eagles Win In Spite Of Sirianni's Decisions: Nick Kostos Calls Out Coaching Blunders

After a narrow Week 3 win over the Saints, You Better You Bet’s Nick Kostos questions Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni's critical play calls, warning they could hold the team back.

“The head coach needs a brain transplant.”

It’s a bold statement, but You Better You Bet host Nick Kostos is known for not holding back. Kostos launched into one of his signature rants, ripping Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni for several questionable decisions in Philadelphia’s 15-12 victory over the Saints in Week 3.

While the Eagles secured the win, the final score doesn’t fully reflect how much they outplayed New Orleans. Philadelphia outgained the Saints by 241 total yards, including 158 yards on the ground.

The Eagles had a chance to tie the game with a field goal at the end of the first half, but Sirianni opted to go for it on 4th-and-1 at the Saints' 15-yard line. Running back Saquon Barkley was stopped short, and New Orleans took over on downs.

Philadelphia got the ball to start the second half and found themselves in a similar situation. Once again, instead of taking the three points with a field goal, Sirianni decided to go for it on 4th-and-3 at the Saints' 34-yard line. And once again, the Eagles failed to convert as Jalen Hurts was sacked, resulting in a second-straight turnover on downs.

This is what set Kostos off.

He noted that while he typically supports aggressive playcalling, given Sirianni’s decision to pass on a field goal at the end of the first half, he shouldn’t have gone for it again in that same situation.

“You’re down by three points on the road against good opposition in a hostile environment,” said Kostos. “You’ve outplayed the opposition. You have to get points on the board here.”

There were offseason reports of a disconnect between Hurts and Sirianni, and that tension was evident in these scenarios on Sunday.

“I said on this show,” Kostos recalled, “All Nick Sirianni has to do is stay out of the way, and the Eagles will cruise to an NFC East championship [...] but the fact that Sirianni is making these critical play calls and they’re failing? Whoa, big-time red flag.

“The players on the field won this game in spite of Nick Sirianni, not because of him.”

Kostos went on to question whether the Eagles can win the Super Bowl (+1200 at BetMGM) or even reach it (+475) with Sirianni as their head coach, insinuating that the Lions (+1200) or even the Vikings (+3000) might be a better bet to win it all.

“The Eagles have great players,” said Kostos. “But the head coach needs a brain transplant. I think he’s ultimately going to hold the team back this season.”
