Per BetMGM, the most bet players to score touchdowns in tonight’s Commanders-Eagles game are Jalen Hurts (-110), A.J. Brown (+115), Saquon Barkley (-225), PHI D/ST (+500) and Jayden Daniels (+210) in that order. With the exception of the D/ST prop, those are boring, though. I’m going to make the case for Eagles WR Jahan Dotson (+900, FanDuel) to find the endzone for the first time this season.
Since arriving in Philadelphia, Dotson has been an afterthought, the result of playing in an offense alongside Jalen Hurts, Brown, Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. However, per NBC Sports Philadelphia, better times could be coming for the WR3, starting with this week against the Commanders.
“Everything is coming in time,” Hurts told reporters this week about Dotson. “It comes with reps, it comes with conversation and communication. Obviously, when you’re able to take advantage of those matchups and take advantage of those opportunities, you seem to find yourself in more of them.”
“Big-time trust, big-time execution,” Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said about a big back-shoulder pass and catch from Dotson last week. “I think it shows Jahan – we all would love every guy to get a whole bunch of catches every game because we think the world of all these guys. And for him to hang in there and then make two big-time catches, each one the last two weeks, I think goes to his consistency and his willingness to keep putting in the work. And Jalen's trust in letting it go. We'll continue to have those opportunities for him.”
Ultimately, Dotson understands that he needs to make the most of his opportunities, even if he only sees a couple targets per game.
“Actions are louder than words,” Dotson said. “Me making plays obviously helps that. He feels that he can trust me when he puts the ball in my vicinity. I trust that he’s going to put it somewhere where I can make a play. I know I can make a play. I know I’m capable of doing that. It’s growing each and every day.”
While Smith and Goedert will play in this game, they could be limited due to appearing on the injury report during the week of practice. That could result in some additional opportunities for Dotson in the passing game. Regardless, getting +900 odds, a 10% implied probability, on an elite athlete getting revenge against the team that traded him away is always something I’m going to be interested in doing. This is the perfect opportunity to buy extremely low on a player that has a lot to prove.
