The trade market for Cavaliers star Collin Sexton appears to be heating up.

The Miami Heat and New York Knicks are "monitoring" the Sexton situation in anticipation of the Cavs making him available in a deal, according to Evan Dammarell of the Cavs blog Fear The Sword.

However, Sexton's contract could complicate such a trade from being pulled off, he added, and might limit the return the Cavs could expect to receive in exchange.

Sexton's name first surfaced in the rumor mill last month, when it was reported that the Cavs were exploring trade options for the 22-year-old breakout star, ahead of extension talks in which Sexton is expected to seek a max deal. The Alabama product set a career high averaging 24 points per game last season, his third in the league.

The Knicks are thought to be seeking a talented young point guard to lead their offense, after they deployed a three-man platoon of Derrick Rose, Immanuel Quickley and Elfrid Payton last season.

The Heat meanwhile were without veteran starter Goran Dragic for much of last season, relying heavily on combo guards Tyler Herro and former undrafted free-agent signee Kendrick Nunn.

The Cavs have the third pick in this year's draft.

Last week, Audacy Sports' Jordan Cohn identified the Knicks, Mavericks, Grizzlies, and 76ers as potential landing spots for Sexton.
