Orioles All-Star Cedric Mullins turned in one of the best defensive plays of the 2021 season on Wednesday night, against the Yankees at Camden Yards.
The breakout star scaled the wall to reel in a high-arcing blast off the bat of New York slugger Gary Sanchez.
The 5-foot-8, lefty-throwing Mullins ranged to his left before going full extension in his vertical leap in front of a large blue MedStar Health sign in right-center field. He made the grab backhanded and somehow managed to keep his feet under him as he crashed back down to the warning track.
Mullins, 26, let out a minor celebratory flex when he was congratulated by right fielder Austin Hays. They shared a high-five on the way into the dugout, while starter John Means reacted with a broad smile and pointed in deference to his center fielder.
Sanchez even tipped his helmet to Mullins in amazement.
Mullins has been a revelation in a lost season for the Orioles, providing strong defense while entering Wednesday's action with an OPS north of .900 and sitting on 29 homers and 28 steals.
