Salvador Perez made history on Thursday afternoon, tying the single-season record for most home runs from a catcher with his 45th of the season. The dinger ties him with Johnny Bench, who did it back in 1970 with the Cincinnati Reds. Perez did it in the bottom of the first, putting the Royals up 2-0 against Oakland:
And speaking of ties, that homer pulls Perez even with Mike Sweeney for 2nd-most all-time for a Royals hitter (197), *and* brings him back into a deadlock with Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for most this season. Perez's season has been historic, with more than a couple people on Royals/Baseball Twitter wondering if it's the best offensive season we've ever seen from a catcher.
