Despite entering the season as one of the NBA’s betting favorites to win the 2022 Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers won’t even be in contention this spring.

On Tuesday night, LeBron James and the Lakers were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention after a tumultuous season full of injuries and ridicule. Warriors coach Steve Kerr has been a longtime adversary of James, dating back to his days with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

During his live appearance with 95.7 The Game’s “Steiny & Guru” Wednesday, Kerr poked fun at LeBron for missing the playoffs this season. You can hear Kerr’s full interview above.

“When you get into the playoffs and you gotta guard – you name it – Paul George or LeBron, well not this year,” Kerr said with a laugh. “Sorry. Just a subtle jab.”

Watch out now. LeBron catching strays. First #NBATwitter was ragging on the Lakers, now Kerr.

That wasn’t the only notable Warriors-LeBron interaction of the day, as Steph Curry told 95.7 The Game hosts Matt Steinmetz and Daryle “The Guru” Johnson that he wasn’t particularly interested in teaming up with LeBron.

In reality, Kerr was answering a question about Jordan Poole and the possibility he could start in the playoffs. Clearly, defense is the big concern for Poole, who has been a revelation on offense over the past month but could be undersized against opposing wings.

“You gotta guard people like that so you gotta account for that defensively,” Kerr said. “That’s the balance as a coach in the playoffs. You gotta find the right combinations that can score and either survive or thrive defensively. That’s why we’ve been so good in the past is that we’ve had these two way players.”
