Rams’ Jalen Ramsey calls Odell Beckham ‘misunderstood’ and a ‘really good teammate’

Upon joining the Rams earlier this season, Odell Beckham’s reputation preceded him as a high-maintenance malcontent, often feuding with teammates and coaches during previous stints with the Browns and Giants. A chronic pot-stirrer, OBJ’s penchant for locker-room drama is well-known, though now that he’s gotten to know him, Jalen Ramsey—no stranger to ruffling feathers himself—would push back on that narrative.

“Having [Beckham] as a teammate is great, honestly,” Ramsey expressed during Thursday's session with local media. “He’s very talented, has a whole lot of skill set, but just his competitive nature, his will and want to be great.”

Beckham’s first playoff game for Los Angeles couldn’t have gone any better, with OBJ contributing four catches for 54 yards and a touchdown Monday in a lopsided win over Arizona. He also threw a 40-yard completion to Cam Akers, who looked explosive as ever in only his second game back from an Achilles injury suffered during training camp (95 yards from scrimmage). “He’s kind of misunderstood,” Ramsey said of Beckham. “He’s a really good teammate. He’s just super competitive, and wants to be great, and wants everybody around him to be great. That’s just the type of guy he is.”

Though Beckham has averaged just 38.1 yards per game since debuting for the Rams in mid-November, he’s still made his presence felt with six touchdowns over that span. Beckham’s next test will come against the Buccaneers in Sunday’s Divisional Round with the winner of that game advancing to next week’s conference championship. The Rams had their way with the Bucs in Week 3 (a 34-24 win at SoFi Stadium), though Sunday’s rematch will be in Tampa Bay, where the Buccaneers have only lost once this season.
