BetQL Daily: How To Bet Patriots Futures

BetQL Daily’s Joe Ostrowski and Sam Panayotovich detail whether they'd bet over or under New England's small regular season win total and evaluate the team's schedule.

The New England Patriots recently announced that veteran Jacoby Brissett will be the starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. He edged out rookie Drake Maye, who the Patriots drafted third overall. Head coach Jerod Mayo announced the decision by noting that the organization believes Brissett gives them the best chance to win right now.

When asked about Maye taking over as the starter later in the season, Mayo said the following, per ESPN, “I don’t want to get into hypotheticals. We can’t go into the season saying, ‘Well, he’s going to go this amount of weeks. Look, as long as Jacoby’s going out there and performing the way that we all have confidence in him doing, he’ll be our quarterback this season.”

Regardless of who starts under center at any point throughout the season, it’s hard to imagine a world in which the Patriots exceed their win total of 4.5 games, priced at -135 to the over and +110 to the under at BetMGM.

“They're favored in a grand total of zero games, but the win total is four and a half, juiced to the over. How do we get to five?” said BetQL Daily’s Joe Ostrowski. “I can’t even come close to getting to five.”

New England has one of the hardest schedules in the NFL this season and not only because they play in a tough division with the Bills, Dolphins and Jets. Their start to the season is daunting with three road games against the Bengals, Jets, and 49ers and a home game against Seattle in the first four weeks. Following that, the Patriots have home games against Miami and Houston before traveling to London to face Jacksonville. Without a bye week, they return home to play the Jets again.

“I would never ever, ever bet over five [wins],” said BetQL Daily co-host Sam Panayotovich.

However, Panayotvich does have a few reservations about betting New England to be the worst team in the league this year. The Giants, Steelers and Panthers are all teams that he thinks could contend for that title with the Patriots.

“There are several teams that could challenge New England for being the worst team,” said Panayotovich. “But if we just put the Patriots on a platform under the spotlight and examine the patient, I'm with you, it's under or pass.”

At +350 odds on BetMGM, betting on New England to finish with the worst record in the league is worth considering. The combination of a talent-depleted roster and an exceptionally challenging schedule makes this a realistic possibility.
