Just hours after agreeing to a two-year, $44 million deal, new Giants southpaw Carlos Rodón joined 95.7 The Game’s “Damon & Ratto” Friday to discuss how the deal came about.

Throughout the 99-day MLB lockout, Rodón said he only spoke to agent Scott Boras once or twice while enjoying the time away from baseball. It didn’t even take 24 hours for him to lock up the first splashy deal of baseball’s abbreviated offseason. You can listen to his full interview below:

“It was pretty quick,” Rodón said. “The Giants were fairly aggressive. They just went right to it, met my needs and what I wanted. I heard a lot about the organization as far as the staff. The Giants won over 100 games last year. It’s hard to say no to that, a winning team, a winning organization. It was a good fit for me.”

Without Buster Posey, the Giants catcher situation is a bit murky in 2022. It’s a prime opportunity for 25-year-old Joey Bart to take a bigger role, while he’s expected to share time with veteran Curt Casali.

“Either one of those guys, it doesn’t matter,” Rodón said. “They’re gonna be back there. I’m sure whoever’s back there, they’re gonna mesh well. If it’s Casali or Bart, whoever it is, it’s going to work out.”

Rodón still has a few weeks to get to know his teammates before Opening Day on April 8, when the Giants host the Miami Marlins. Rodón figures to slot in as the team’s No. 2 starter behind Logan Webb, so his San Francisco debut could go down on April 9 if there are no setbacks. The 29-year-old posted a 2.37 ERA, 2.65 FIP, 0.96 WHIP and 185/36 K/BB ratio in 132.2 innings while making his first All-Star team and finishing fifth in AL Cy Young voting.

Rodón said he’s already looking forward to matching up against Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Trea Turner, his former college roommate at North Carolina State.

“NL West is no joke," Rodón said. "It’s the big boy league, for sure."
