There are two games on Monday Night Football once again this week, and while I am not a fan of having to watch with picture-in-picture, this game will certainly be the better of the two. I am just enough of an NFL sicko that I want to watch Will Levis and Skylar Thompson or Tim Boyle. As for this game between two teams with winning records and much more competent quarterbacks, the Seahawks and Lions will battle it out in Detroit. Right now at most sportsbooks, the Lions are a -3.5 favorite in the market, with a total set at 46.5. I have a lean on this one right now, but I have not bet the game as of this writing.
The Seahawks are coming off of a 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins at home, which seems like a dominant win at first glance. However, they were up 17-3 for most of the game, which is not an insurmountable lead by any means. Their offense did not look that good after the first quarter of the game where they went off, but stalled for most of the game. The defense played lights out, as you would expect under a new defensive coach in Mike MacDonald. Granted, it was against Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle, and Jared Goff is on a whole other level from them. Keep in mind that the Seahawks are the first team to start 3-0 and allow fewer than 150 passing yards in each game since the 1979 Steelers, though.
Detroit has not looked as good as I think many people thought they would entering this season. They barely scraped by the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, and very well could have lost that game if not for some questionable coaching by Sean McVay at the end of that game. They lost straight up to the Buccaneers in Week 2 at home as a -7.5 favorite, which is obviously quite bad. They won in Week 3 against the Cardinals in an ugly game, 20-13, and the offense just has not been clicking to start the year.
Despite the struggles of Detroit to start their season, the public is going to be all over them to cover the spread in this game. While the Chiefs are the most public team in the land, the Lions come pretty close, as there is rarely a game that goes by where they don’t have the most money and tickets on them. As a result, I will virtually guarantee I will have a ticket on the Seahawks come Monday night, and would be blown away and shocked if I bet the Lions at home as a favorite.
The Seahawks will probably be my pick here ATS, but as always, stay aware of the latest betting splits from our friends at BetMGM.
