Chris Berman probably wishes he could have a redo on this one.

The ESPN broadcaster was doing the postgame show following Super Bowl LVII on Sunday and mentioned how Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts marked the first time two African-American quarterbacks were starting in the game.

Things then took a strange turn when Berman uttered, “Fittingly, February 12 is Abe Lincoln’s birthday.”

Cue the highlights.

Wait, what?

It was a confusing, cringeworthy moment for the 67-year-old broadcaster to use Lincoln’s birthday as some sort of connection for two Black quarterbacks playing in the Super Bowl.

As the highlights rolled there was some laughter from Steve Young and Booger McFarland on the set, probably realizing what Berman said was totally out of left field.

Perhaps a better thing to say would have been noting that fittingly, it is Black History Month. Or he could have just cut himself off after noting the historical milestone.

Instead, he made it into a very, very weird moment.
