Newly acquired Giants star tight end Darren Waller seems to have some hard feelings over his exit from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Or at least his new bride does.
Among the many responses to the Waller trade news came from ESPN football analyst Robert Griffin III, who joked that Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels' "wedding present" to Waller was a ticket out of town.
Waller's wife, WNBA star Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces, then chimed in on Griffin's tweet by suggesting the trade was executed because McDaniels hadn't been invited to the wedding.
Plum's tweet came just hours after a report hinted at possible fissures in Waller's relationship with the Raiders.
Shortly after news of the Waller trade broke, a report surfaced indicating Waller was upset that McDaniels had mentioned Waller's upcoming wedding to reporters during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Apparently, Waller and Plum had wanted to keep the event under wraps.
So did Waller and the Raiders fall out over his wedding?
While it may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, the Raiders have been rumored to be interested in moving on from the former Georgia Tech star since at least offseason, when they reportedly tried to trade him to the Packers as part of the Davante Adams deal.
Waller, who turns 31 in September, was one of the game's best tight ends for a two-year run in 2019 and '20, compiling 197 catches for 2,341 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has been slowed by injuries in each of the past two seasons, however.
