Nearly eight years ago, a Twitter with only a couple hundred followers tweeted that Derek Jeter no longer had an excuse for not being on the social media website, since his legendary baseball career had come to an end.

On Tuesday morning, The Captain responded with what was his first ever tweet on his brand new Twitter account.

That’s right, the Yankee legend notorious for saying very little in public forums is now on Twitter, and is already joking about his old haircut from his high school days.

Jeter is now also active on Instagram, posting a video introducing himself to the app and what to expect from his account.

‘I’m about to start a busy summer, so I thought ‘Hey, why not add a little more craziness and dive right in here,” Jeter said. “What will I be posting? I guess time will tell. But I am looking forward to sharing with you some of the projects I have on the way…and some of the really special work we’re doing at the Turn 2 Foundation. But take it easy, I’m new to this.”

The welcome messages flooded in to Jeter now that he is officially on social media. Give him a follow!
