The NHL season was underway on Tuesday night with the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning facing off at Madison Square Garden, but not before a very strange moment to start off the season.
As the two teams prepared for the faceoff at center ice, official Chris Rooney turned on his mic and addressed the fans on the start of the season.

“To our great players and great fans, welcome to opening night of the 2022-23 regular season,” he said. “What’s better than this? Good luck to all players. Let’s have a great season.”
The official addressing the crowd to welcome them to the season was pretty unusual, but adding “what’s better than that” was a little too cringeworthy and awkward of a moment, and fans on social media winced and laughed at the moment.
