Dak Prescott seems firmly in Mike McCarthy’s corner. If the Cowboys are committed to the quarterback, that can’t be forgotten as they decide the coach’s future.

Dallas bowed out of the playoffs in embarrassing fashion, getting crushed at home by McCarthy’s former team, the Packers, in the wild card round Sunday. It’s one thing to lose, but the Cowboys getting pummeled raises questions about just how safe McCarthy’s job now is.

Prescott was asked about his coach’s status following the loss, and he made abundantly clear McCarthy has his enforcement.

"He's been amazing. I don't know how there can be (questions about his job security), but I understand the business," Prescott said. "In that case then there should be about me as well, honestly. I mean, that guy -- I've had the season I've had because of him.

"This team has had the success that they've had because of him. And I understand it's about winning the Super Bowl, and that's the standard of the league and damn sure the standard of this place. I get it. But add me to the list in that case."

As Prescott alluded to, McCarthy unlocked a side of Prescott we’ve yet to see in his career. The 30-year-old put together his best campaign as a pro, and it came as a result of McCarthy taking over the offense following the split with Kellen Moore.

There’s widespread belief that Prescott and the Cowboys will agree to an extension this offseason. With that in mind, 105.3 The Fan’s Shan Shariff said Monday on Shan & RJ if Prescott truly believes that McCarthy tapped into a different side of him, that should mean something to Jerry Jones.

“That statement, and the authenticity, accuracy and truth of it, if they’re going to keep Dak and give him the extension, that statement, we need to figure out how 100 percent legit that is. If he really feels like Mike McCarthy unlocked something in his game – look, for all the Dak talk, and we’re gonna have a lot of it throughout the week – he’s going to finish third in MVP, maybe second. He’s going to finish top two or three in M.V.P.

“Did Mike McCarthy really bring something different offensively to the table that allowed that to happen, with a hell of a season. That is something you have to factor into and weigh into the conversation.”
