As college football kicks off the 2024 season, we’ve got a juicy parlay to consider for Week 1, featuring South Dakota State, Liberty, and Arizona. With South Dakota State’s impressive track record and a formidable lineup, they’re set to challenge Oklahoma State. Liberty’s high-octane offense should overwhelm Campbell, while Arizona’s strong start against New Mexico looks promising. Dive into my analysis to see why these picks could be a winning combination for your bet slip this weekend.
The Parlay: South Dakota State +10 at Oklahoma State & Liberty -35.5 vs. Campbell & Arizona 1H -19.5 vs. New Mexico (+551, BetMGM)
The Jackrabbits have won the last two FCS national championships, stringing together a 29-game win streak in the process. They have a ton of veteran players returning this year with 28 seniors, including quarterback Mark Gronowski. SDSU plays fast and has a dominant offensive line and run game. They’ll be able to keep up with Oklahoma State on the scoreboard and cover as 10-point dogs.
Campbell is led by quarterback Chad Mascoe who has only played in five games over the past two seasons. They also have an entirely new running back room with their top five backs from last season gone. Liberty is coming off a dominant season in which they were the Conference USA champions. Head coach Jamey Chadwell runs a high-octane offense and with QB Kaidon Salter back the Flames should pick up right where they left off. They finished off the 2023 regular season scoring at least 42 points in five of their last six games. They’ll put up a similar number against Campbell, covering -35.5.
New Mexico played in Week 0, falling just short of pulling off the upset over Montana State with a final score of 35-31. The Lobos forced two fumbles and recovered both for touchdowns, helping them build an early lead before a fourth-quarter comeback from the Bobcats. They aren’t going to find a similar scenario against Arizona because the Wildcats won’t turn the ball over. Arizona QB Noah Fifita and WR Tetairoa McMillan both return, making up one of the best QB-WR duos in the nation. They also will be playing behind a strong offensive line that won’t be able to generate enough pressure on Fifita to impact him too much. (After all, New Mexico’s defense gave up 567 total yards to Montana State.) However, to avoid any sort of backdoor cover, I’m going to grab the Wildcats to cover the first half.
