Going 32-50 last year, the Brooklyn Nets broke their streak of five straight playoff appearances and are now starting yet another rebuilding process under first-year head coach Jordi Fernandez.
While there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the potential rotations, one thing is obvious: Cam Thomas is poised for a breakout campaign and is the team’s top offensive option. Scoring 22.5 points on 44.2% shooting (36.4% from three) in 31.4 minutes over 66 games (51 starts) last season, I love his “over 24.5 points per game (-115)” season future bet at BetMGM.
Thomas is the CLEAR top offensive option over teammates Ben Simmons, Day’Ron Sharpe, Ziaire Williams, Dorian Finney-Smith, Bojan Bogdanovic, Cameron Johnson, Dennis Schroder, Noah Clowney, Dariq Whitehead, Jalen Wilson, Shake Milton, Nic Claxton, Trendon Watford and Keon Johnson. Averaging 20-plus shots per game isn’t out of the question and his recent comments in an interview with SLAM conveyed how comfortable he is being the No. 1 option.
“I’ve kind of been having those roles [as the leader of the team] ever since I was in high school and college. So, I’m not really worried about it. I’m just excited to get it going and to try to do it in the League. I’m not really worried about it at all; I’m just ready,” he said.
Regarding his desired scoring output, he noted, “I had the biggest jump in points from my second year to my third year. I was at 22.5 [points per game], so I think trying to get into that 25 ppg range, upping the playmaking and just trying to keep improving my all-around game. And hopefully, it leads to wins.”
If you want to get really spicy, Thomas is also listed at +3000 to win Most Improved Player of the Year.
