Burdge: Cody Bellinger is a Solid Addition for Yankees

Replacing Juan Soto is going to be tough, but Bellinger should produce in pinstripes

The Yankees were looking to acquire talent after saying goodbye to Juan Soto and they certainly did just that with the acquisition of Cody Bellinger.

The deal went down on Tuesday when the Yankees pulled off a Cody-for-Cody swap, getting Bellinger in return for right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet. As Sarah Langs pointed out, this is the first time an MLB player named Cody has been traded for another MLB player named Cody. ALSO, she pointed out that Clay and Cody Bellinger are the fourth father-son duo to both play for the Yankees. I love this stuff.

And this is a very solid move for the Yankees. Especially when it comes to fulfilling their mission to rebuild following Soto’s departure.

You could say when it comes to finding a Soto dupe, Bellinger is a pretty good one for the Yankees.

Bellinger is only a couple years older than Soto and the past two seasons he has batted .266 and .307 with 137 and 153 hits, while Soto batted .288 and .275 with 166 and 156 hits.

Not to mention the Yankees also added Devin Williams and Max Fried and don’t have to spend almost a billion dollars on just Soto.

I think this is an excellent move for the Yankees and they did a great job with this one.

But I am still looking at the Red Sox to win the AL East at +450 at BetMGM.
