We all get a case of the Mondays now and then—but no one more so than Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Jones will take the field tonight for a Monday Night Football showdown in Pittsburgh, looking to reverse a troubling trend. Coming off his worst performance of the season, where he managed just 99 passing yards, took seven sacks, and was ultimately benched for the fourth quarter, Jones faces an uphill battle to bounce back. And if history is any indication, his Monday night struggles are real.
In seven career Monday Night Football appearances, Jones has totaled 1,533 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, posting a passer rating of 72.4. Those numbers have contributed to his 0-7 record on Monday nights—the worst mark of any quarterback in NFL history.
Here’s a look at his Monday night record:
2019 vs. Cowboys: 37-18 loss
2020 vs. Steelers: 26-16 loss
2020 vs. Bucs: 25-23 loss
2021 @ Chiefs: 20-17 loss
2021 @ Bucs: 30-10 loss
2022 vs. Cowboys: 23-16 loss
2023 vs. Seahawks: 24-3 loss
In his most recent Monday night appearance, Jones endured one of his most difficult outings yet, throwing a 97-yard pick-six and taking 10 sacks in a 24-3 loss to the Seahawks. He finished that game without a touchdown, throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble—a performance symbolic of his primetime struggles.
Jones' track record under the bright lights extends beyond Mondays. Across his last 15 primetime games—including Thursday and Sunday Night Football—he holds a dismal 1-14 straight-up record, again the worst by any quarterback. In these games, he’s thrown just 12 touchdowns against 20 interceptions.
To make matters worse, Jones has yet to throw a passing touchdown at home this season - a streak that dates back to the end of the 2022 season. Thankfully for New York fans, the Giants are on the road tonight. Still, the pressure on him has been building all season, intensified by his benching last week. Now, with the entire country watching and a daunting Monday night losing streak looming, the odds are heavily stacked against Jones tonight.
