It seems last night’s loss to the Buffalo Bills has made New York Jets owner Woody Johnson desperate to field a winner this year, so he went out and traded for All-Pro Wide Reciver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders to give them a boost this morning. All it took to get the superstar wideout was a conditional third-round pick that could turn into a second-rounder if Adams is named a 1st or 2nd team AP All-Pro or is on the active roster for the AFC Championship or Super Bowl.

Johnson has repeatedly said that this is the year that the Jets need to contend for a Super Bowl, and that he is going all out to make that a reality. With his team sitting at 2-4 and having just fired their head coach Robert Saleh, Johnson knew that he needed to do something quickly to turn the ship around before it was too late. By trading for Adams, the team immediately has one of the best in the league at the receiver position, which will help out his quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers and Adams have quite a good history together, afterall. The two were a dynamic duo in Green Bay for years, lighting up the league and putting up some crazy offensive stats. Adams became a household name with Rodgers as his signal-caller, being named All-Pro several times as a Packer. Rodgers, the soon to be first-ballot Hall of Famer, won multiple MVP awards with Adams as his primary target.

The price for Adams wasn’t drastic, and I’m sure Johnson would be happy to hand over that second-round selection if Adams accomplishes any of those conditions for the trade. However, the Jets will be responsible for paying the rest of his salary remaining on his contract that he signed with Las Vegas. However, the Raiders will still be strapped with some dead cap space because of the amortization of the already paid signing bonus.

So far this season, Adams has missed three games due to injury, but some have speculated that he just didn’t want to play another game for the silver and black, and thus was just holding out for a trade. I have a feeling that his “hamstring” injury will magically disappear as soon as he enters the Big Apple. Regardless of whether it was a real injury or not, you would expect him to play sooner rather than later and suit up in a New York uniform.

This season, in three games played for Las Vegas, Adams compiled 18 catches for 209 yards and one touchdown. That was with Gardner Minshew throwing him the ball, who has since been benched for Aiden O’Connell due to poor play. The Raiders have had all kinds of QB issues since Derek Carr went to the Saints, and Adams' production has dropped because of it.

In terms of the betting market, this trade did absolutely nothing. The Jets were +3000 before the trade went down to win the Super Bowl, and it remains at that number after. Clearly, the books don’t seem to think it will make much of a difference for their title hopes.

We’ll see how this reunion with Rodgers goes in New York. Johnson is clearly hoping that they will find the spark they had in Green Bay that terrorized the league for years in the 2010s. However, sometimes these reunions don’t always go to plan. One thing is for sure, and that is the fact that it has been a very interesting season for the Jets, which is more than you can normally say.
