Now a member of the Cincinnati Reds, Mike Moustakas has a real chance of making it back to the postseason for the fourth straight season, as his team currently sits at second place in the NL Central and in one of the NL Wild Card spots with a 72-63 record. No stranger to the playoffs, Moustakas has nearly 200 plate appearances in postseason baseball and some nice hardware to show for the results.
Well, he had some nice hardware. Apparently, that's been stolen from him, and there's a 23-year-old man who's getting accused of the crime.
According to FOX19 in Cincinnati, Casey Zang, a homeless man, was charged with theft and arrested on Tuesday. Police say that Zang took the World Series Ring and the ALCS Ring from the Royals' 2015 postseason run, worth at least $150,000, on August 25. Court records say that there is video evidence available of Zang, but that it's not yet clear how or where the theft took place.
Zang made an appearance in court on Wednesday morning and had his bond set at $50,000.
Moustakas recorded 12 hits across 47-at-bats in the 2015 ALCS and World Series, including a controversial home run in Game 6 of the ALCS, the final contest of the series, against the Blue Jays.
The Royals would go on to defeat the Mets in five games to pick up their first World Series victory since 1985 — a series that also, ironically, had a notable ring theft.
