By all accounts, Bill O'Brien is the top choice to replace Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator of the Patriots.
Without really any internal candidates, O'Brien is the best next option given his time with New England roughly a decade ago. But, what if it's not O'Brien and he stays offensive coordinator at Alabama?
A name that continues to come up is Adam Gase.
According to NFL Media's Mike Giardi, "Gase's name keeps popping up when speaking to league sources about the Patriots' now vacant offensive coordinator position."
Bill Belichick has respected Gase over the years.
"Adam's always had an offensive system that's really given quarterbacks all the tools they need to be successful," he said in 2020 before he was fired as head coach of the Jets. "I don't think you could have anybody better coaching (Sam Darnold) than where he's at."
Belichick also always praised Gase when he was with Miami. The former NFL head coach did not work with any team in 2021.
While it likely wouldn't be a popular hire in these parts, keep Gase's name in mind, especially if it isn't O'Brien.
