Von Miller had 120 million reasons to join the Bills this offseason, but the former Super Bowl MVP still felt he owed his coach an explanation, calling Sean McVay to tell him he was signing a six-year contract with Buffalo. Miller shared video of that exchange, insisting it wasn’t about the “bread,” while calling his decision to leave Los Angeles “one of the toughest I’ve ever made.”
“Coach, I just wanted to call you because I respect you so much and I wanted to be the one that told you,” said Miller. “My dad said to me, because I don’t really make a decision without my dad, he asked me, am I satisfied with my career? Am I content? I told him, ‘no.’ I told him that I wanted more, I wanted to keep doing more. And that meant going to Buffalo for me.”

Miller, who also spoke with teammates Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey and Odell Beckham, said he was willing to take “a little bit less” to stay in Los Angeles, but ultimately preferred the opportunity presented by Buffalo. However brief, the veteran linebacker made the most of his limited time with Los Angeles, totaling 45 tackles (35 solo), nine sacks and two forced fumbles in 12 games (playoffs included). His Rams tenure ended with a Super Bowl parade celebrating the team’s first title in 22 years and the second of Miller’s exceptional career.
Losing Miller, the NFL’s active leader in sacks with 115, would be a tough pill to swallow for most teams, but not the Rams, who quickly pivoted to free agent Bobby Wagner, an eight-time Pro Bowler with a Hall-of-Fame bust waiting for him in Canton whenever he decides to hang up his size-12 Nikes.
