As the New England Patriots look to overhaul their wide receiving corps, a certain three-time Pro-Bowler reportedly could be of interest.
Over the weekend, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler mentioned Odell Beckham Jr. as a name to watch in New England, saying that the Patriots "had some exploratory talks" with Beckham at the outset of free agency:
It should be noted that any interest shown in Beckham was prior to the team acquiring Devante Parker from the Miami Dolphins on Saturday. But when you consider that Parker has struggled to stay healthy throughout the course of his career and the division-rival Dolphins were willing to part ways with him because they have a slew of other star pass catchers, the addition should hardly preclude the Patriots from making another move at wide receiver.
What's also worth pointing out here is that we don't know when, if at all, Beckham will be ready to play in 2022 after he tore his left ACL in the Super Bowl. This is the second time in as many seasons that the former Offensive Rookie of the Year tore his left ACL, so it's especially important to make sure he's back at 100% before stepping back on the field. Perhaps a two-year deal -- with the understanding that Beckham may not play in the first year as he rehabs -- would make sense for both parties.
With that said, Beckham revived his career in a postseason run with the Los Angeles Rams. In less than a half, Beckham had two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. There's no doubt that the 29-year-old can still provide value when healthy.
