(SportsRadio 610) - The Seattle Seahawks are interested in acquiring Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and expected to explore trade scenarios after dealing Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos on Tuesday.
According to Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson (no relation to Russell) reported the news of Seattle's interest in Watson on Wednesday morning. The Seahawks still want to contend, but have a much better chance at doing so with Watson behind center rather than Drew Lock, who they received in the Russell Wilson trade.
Watson has not played since the 2020 season, sitting out last season while 22 civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct loomed, and after requesting to be traded by the Texans.
There has been interest in trading for Watson, but no team has ultimately been willing to take on a player with unresolved sexual misconduct allegations.
On Friday, a Harris County grand jury will consider whether to bring charges against Watson, who has also been under investigation by the Houston Police Department.
Clarity in the criminal side of this could have a domino effect on the civil side, which could open the door for a trade.
But given how slowly the legal process can move, and with the NFL Draft beginning April 28, there is still a chance Watson remains on this team for the foreseeable future.
