Brian Flores has found another job in the NFL, but not as a head coach.
The Steelers announced Saturday that they have named Flores as their senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach, as the former Dolphins head coach has found a new landing spot amid his current lawsuit against all 32 NFL teams, citing racial discrimination. In his lawsuit, Flores noted payment offers from Miami ownership to lose games for a better draft pick, and text messages from Bill Belichick meant for Brian Daboll, who Flores claims was the Giants’ pick to be their next head coach days before interviewing Flores.

"I am excited about Brian Flores joining our coaching staff given his history of developing and teaching defensive players during his time in the NFL," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement. "Brian's resume speaks for itself, and I look forward to him adding his expertise to help our team."
The Giants responded in a statement refuting Flores’ claims, while Flores continued to interview for head coaching spots. He interviewed with the Texans, who instead chose Lovie Smith, prompting Flores to add Houston to his lawsuit, claiming he was not hired because of the pending lawsuit.
Flores’ initial lawsuit also included claims of a sham interview with the Broncos, saying Denver’s John Elway showed up hungover to the interview, which Flores believes was only scheduled to satisfy the Rooney Rule.
Flores, a previous member of Belichick’s coaching staff in New England, found success as a head coach with the Dolphins. After a 5-11 debut, Flores turned things around and helped the Dolphins post a 10-6 record in 2020, then, after losing seven in a row this season, finished with a 9-8 record. His firing came as a surprise, and was seen as a hot candidate to be named a head coach elsewhere. Instead, he will take on a new role and wait until next year’s cycle.
