Von Miller seemingly had been dropping hints that a reunion with the Denver Broncos this offseason was possible.
In an ideal world, perhaps that would’ve come to pass. But in the business world, it simply did not end up being feasible.
The star edge rusher ended up signing with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, inking a six-year, $51.5 million deal. It’s a lot of term and cash to give someone entering their age-33 season, but Miller remains a mostly-effective player.
Be that as it may, Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright shared on WGR 550 in Buffalo on Thursday that Miller going back to the Broncos was “not really” close to happening.
“With the fans and on his Instagram there was that kind of thing, but the Broncos knew they had a certain price point and they weren’t going to meet that," Allbright told "Howard and Jeremy". "Von Miller was looking for a certain number. (The Bills) had Chandler Jones and Von Miller in their sights, which was a little bit more than the Broncos were willing to spend, (which is why) they ultimately got Randy Gregory at $14 million a year and Von, of course, winds up closer to 20.”
Between the pursuit of Jones and Miller, it was evident that finding a star pass rusher was a high priority for the Bills this offseason. Clearly, the Broncos preferred to exhaust most of their resources on the quarterback position, with Denver effectively deciding that adding Russell Wilson was a bigger priority than bringing back Miller.
