College football season is in full swing and with Week 3 coming up, Chelsa Messinger and Michael Jenkins took a look at where the Heisman Trophy odds stand after Week 2.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is favored at +600 at BetMGM to take home the award, while multiple players, including Miami quarterback Cam Ward, are tied at +900.
While Ward is off to a monster start this season, Messinger thinks there are some factors that could keep him from earning the Heisman.
“I think the downfall for Cam Ward is going to be he is going to put up good numbers, but I think the question mark for the voters is going to be who’s he doing it against?,” Messinger said. “Because I think if Quinn Ewers puts up massive numbers against the SEC in Texas’ first year joining the conference, that’s the better storyline. That’s the most impressive feat as opposed to Miami putting up big numbers against, you know, South Florida and Ball State … because if you look at Miami’s schedule, it really hurts them that Florida State is bad and there’s just not that much competition in the ACC … I think it’s going to be tough sledding for Cam Ward if Quinn Ewers keeps putting these type of numbers.”
“God, I hope you’re right,” Jenkins, the biggest Texas fan maybe on the planet, said. “You have no idea how much I hope you’re correct.”
