Week 3 was a profitable NCAAF DFS week for me and two out of my three core pieces absolutely smashed. Pittsburgh QB Eli Holstein was priced down at $7,300 against West Virginia and crushed, putting up 32.94 DraftKings points as one of the highest scorers on the entire slate. South Carolina running back Raheim Sanders ($4,900) had an insane day against LSU and put up an astounding 31.4 DraftKings points at 22.79% ownership in the highest prize pool large-field GPP. Finally, Purdue TE Max Klare ($3,400) only put up 6.6 DraftKings points at 5.61% ownership, but he didn’t completely kill my lineups.
Heading into Week 4, there are three more guys that I’m going to key in on and include in 100% of my lineups. Here are my core plays.
Arkansas QB Taylen Green ($7,500) at Auburn
Taylen Green is the QB1 fantasy scorer on this slate yet is priced down at QB23 due to the tough perceived matchup at Auburn. I, however, don’t care about the matchup one bit. Green is exactly the type of QB that you want to roster in college DFS due to his rushing upside. As a passer, he’s combined for three touchdowns and two interceptions through three games, but as a runner, he’s taken six carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns (Arkansas Pine Bluff), 18 carries for 61 yards (Oklahoma State) and 17 carries for 96 yards and two touchdowns (UAB), racking up 37.96, 28.74 and 27.04 fantasy points in the process.
This Auburn team lost 21-14 to Cal on their home field two weeks ago and even allowed 19 points to 0-3 New Mexico last week, including 291 passing yards to QB Devon Dampier. There’s simply no other QB on this entire slate that has Green’s upside and I expect this game to stay close throughout, so we should see four quarters of production. He will likely be popular in GPP’s, but I’m going to be overweight on the field (100%, in fact). This game has a 56.5 point total and Arkansas (+2.5) has an implied 27 point team total. Most of that production is going to come from Green and the ball will be in his hands all game long.
Arkansas WR Andrew Armstrong ($6,900) at Auburn
I usually don’t like to stack mobile QB’s with any of their teammates, but I’m going to make an exception here with Armstrong. He’s ranked WR1 in terms of production, but finds his price down at WR5 due to the matchup. After sitting out the season-opening 70-0 blowout over Arkansas Pine Bluff, Armstrong has racked up 10 receptions for 164 yards against Oklahoma State and followed that up with eight catches for 137 yards last week. He finished with 29.4 and 24.7 DraftKings points despite the fact that he didn’t find the end zone yet.
Armstrong led the team with 56 catches for 764 yards with five touchdowns last season and will likely be targeted over 10 times for the third straight contest against Auburn. No other Arkansas teammate has over seven receptions or over 128 yards and Armstrong has 18 catches for 301 yards despite playing only two of the three possible games. He’ll be Green’s first look and should get another massive target share in this one.
Texas Tech RB Tahj Brooks ($7,800) vs. Arizona State
Since Ollie Gordon II is in a tough matchup against Utah, I suspect RB ownership is going to be spread out quite a bit on this slate. My favorite option of the bunch is Brooks, who comes in ranked RB5 in production and RB3 in pricing. The reasons I love him so much this week are simple.
Backup RB Cam’Ron Valdez is going to be out, which should lead to extra carries for Brooks. He took 27 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown and then 17 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown in his first two games (he was out for the Week 2 loss at Washington State). Therefore, it’s possible that he’s going to play all three downs and have some receiving upside as well, just like he did in the season opener when he had three catches for 14 yards. Within an Air Raid offense, rostering a running back is usually something I don’t even consider, but since this game has a 59 point total and Texas Tech has an implied 31-point team total, there’s a lot to like here.
