What's Wrong with Kyle Pitts? Here’s a Theory

Is It Time to Question Kyle Pitts’ NFL Talent or Just a Rough Patch?

It seems that after every single game that the Atlanta Falcons play, the question will be asked: “What is wrong with Kyle Pitts?! Why isn’t he racking up points for my fantasy team?!” This is now commonplace in NFL social media circles, as a quick log on to X after a game will nearly guarantee one prominent organization talking about Pitts. Still, everyone seems to be overlooking one possibility on why he has not been performing up to expectations.

It is entirely possible that Kyle Pitts, the superstar drafted No. 4 overall by the Falcons out of Florida, is just not a good NFL player.

Has anyone even considered this possibility at all before drafting him high in your fantasy league or betting on his prop overs every game? I seriously want you, as the reader of this article, to answer that question. Just tell me, what has he done that makes you believe in him so much?

Last I checked, Pitts has been a highly unproductive player in the NFL over his now four year career. His rookie season saw him post his only 1,000 receiving yard year, where he still caught just a single touchdown in 17 games. In his sophomore season, he only played 10 games due to injury, and had a measly 356 yards and two total touchdowns. Last season, he managed only 667 yards in a full 17 game season, and caught just three touchdowns. So far in 2024, he has 105 yards and a single touchdown through four games.

So, for his career, he is averaging roughly 45 yards and 0.15 touchdowns per game. What about those stats tells you that he is good? I also don’t want to hear the argument about Arthur Smith or Desmond Ridder or whatever nonsense you want to shift the blame to. Great and talented players can overcome a bad quarterback or head coach. We have seen that a million times in the past.

The question shouldn’t be “What is wrong with Kyle Pitts?” but rather “Is Kyle Pitts any good at all at the professional level?” If you do your research, it is very easy to figure out the answer to that question. He’s been bad, and that is just the end of it.

Now, another question you can ask is if he will get any better. Considering he is just 23 years of age, then yes, he can certainly get better. He hasn’t even reached the prime of his career yet, so there is plenty of time for him to become a productive tight end in the NFL. However, please stop asking what is wrong with him. He’s simply not been good to this point and there is no arguing that.

My recommendation is to stop getting your hopes up on him until he does something to make you actually believe in him as a legitimate No. 1 type of target. I’m not talking about just a game either. I want to see him clear 1,000 yards again and grab closer to 10 TDs before I even think twice about calling him bad.

He had his best games of the season last year against the Bucs, who the Falcons play on Thursday. If you want to buy into him again, do so at your own risk. His receiving line is set right around 30 yards across the industry.
