Noah Syndergaard made his first appearance of 2021 on Tuesday night -- but will it be his last as a Met?

The veteran pitcher, who is set to be a free agent at season's end, seemed to suggest there's a good chance he'll be back with the only team he's played for in the Majors.

"I'm fairly confident that we'll reach an agreement, and I'll be pitching here next year," Syndergaard told reporters after throwing a clean inning in the night cap of a doubleheader against the Marlins.

However, the 29-year-old right-hander clarified that there are no specific ongoing talks between his representatives and the teams.

He also noted that he'd be happy to receive a one-year qualifying offer from the Mets, which is the contractual mechanism they used last offseason to retain Marcus Stroman at around $19 million for 2021.

"It would be something I would be extremely grateful for," he said. "We'll cross that bridge when we get there, but it's definitely something I'm hoping for."

Syndergaard missed all of 2020 and most of 2021 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2020.

He has a 3.30 career ERA in 120 career appearances after debuting with the Mets in 2015, when the team reached the World Series against the Royals.
